Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar optional, for a slight sweetness
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (or buttermilk) buttermilk makes it extra fancy

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and optional sugar.
  3. Add the chilled, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to combine until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. On a floured surface, turn the dough out and gently knead a few times until it comes together.
  6. Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness, then cut out your biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
Baking
  1. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until they are golden brown on top.
  3. Once done, let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For flaky biscuits, try grating the cold butter. You can also add favorite mix-ins like cheese, herbs, or bacon bits. Don't worry if the dough looks shaggy; that's part of the charm!
