Method
Bake the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs and vanilla, and beat until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and milk until just combined.
- Pour this batter into a greased 9x9-inch baking dish and bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let it cool completely.
Prepare the Milks
- In a bowl, whisk together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk.
Soaking the Cake
- Once the cake has cooled, poke holes all over the top with a fork.
- Pour the milk mixture over the cake, ensuring it's evenly soaked.
- Use any leftover milk mixture for drizzling later.
Make the Whipped Topping
- In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
Assemble Your Dessert in a Glass
- Crumble a piece of the soaked cake into the bottom of your serving glass.
- Layer on some whipped cream, and repeat with another layer of cake and cream until you reach the top.
- Finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or shaved chocolate.
Notes
Don’t skip the cooling step; if the cake is warm, the milk won't soak in beautifully. Use high-quality vanilla extract for extra flavor. You can add fresh fruit like strawberries or bananas between layers for added freshness.
