  • 6 cups cubed bread preferably stale, but fresh works too
  • 4 cups milk whole milk for creamy indulgence
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • a pinch salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cube the stale bread into 1-inch thick cubes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Add the cubed bread to the custard mixture and stir gently to coat. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish and pour the mixture inside, spreading it out evenly.
  6. If desired, add chocolate chips or raisins at this stage.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  2. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

You can prepare this bread pudding the night before and bake it in the morning. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
