Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 4 large large onions, sliced Preferably yellow onions for sweetness.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can substitute half-and-half for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded Add more cheese for a cheesier version.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter For greasing the baking dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer the sliced onions in the baking dish.
Cooking
  1. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the onions.
  2. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the cream.
  3. Season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  5. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until bubbly and lightly browned.

Notes

Serve warm as a side dish, great with any Southern meal. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
