Ingredients
  

Cucumber Preparation
  • 4 cups cucumber slices Pickling cucumbers work best!
Pickling Mixture
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds Optional substitute with yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced Optional for added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash your cucumbers and slice them into thick rounds or spears.
Mixing the Ingredients
  1. In a large glass bowl, combine the sugar, vinegar, mustard seeds, celery seeds, crushed red pepper flakes, and garlic powder.
  2. Mix well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Adding Cucumbers
  1. Toss the cucumber slices into the mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.
  2. If desired, add the thinly sliced onion.
Chilling
  1. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer it to a sealed jar.
  2. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours to allow flavors to meld.
Serving
  1. After chilling, serve the pickles on burgers, sandwiches, or as a snack.

Notes

Customize your heat by adding more red pepper flakes or fresh jalapeños. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
