Ingredients
  

For the Cabbage Rolls
  • 1 large head green cabbage Used for wrapping the filling.
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey) Alternate protein options available.
  • 1 cup cooked rice Leftover rice works well.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped Adds flavor to the filling.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Enhances color and flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season according to preference.
For the Sauce
  • 2 cups tomato sauce Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Adds herby flavor.
  • a dash red pepper flakes Optional for extra spice.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until tender. Remove and cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
Forming and Assembling
  1. Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of filling at the base, tuck in the sides, and roll tightly. Repeat with remaining fillings.
  2. Mix tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Spread some sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
  3. Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish, pour remaining sauce over them.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Notes

Cabbage leaves can tear; imperfect rolls are still delicious! Use pre-packaged coleslaw for a quick alternative. Leftover sauce is great for pasta or bread dipping.
