Preparation
- Start by getting your steamer ready. If you don't have a fancy steamer, a large pot with a steaming rack will do just fine. Pour about an inch of water into the pot, making sure it doesn't touch the steamer rack, and bring the water to a gentle boil.
- If using frozen crab legs, ensure they are thawed. Arrange the crab legs in the steamer, squeezing half of the lemon juice over them, and sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning.
Cooking
- Once the water is boiling, place the steamer basket on top, cover with a lid, and let the crab legs steam for about 6-8 minutes, until heated through.
- Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small saucepan, adding a dash of the remaining lemon juice for extra flavor if desired.
- When the crab legs are fully steamed, carefully remove them and drizzle with melted butter.
Serving
- Serve the steamed king crab legs with the remaining lemon halves and the melted butter on the side for dipping.
Notes
For a twist, add garlic cloves and herbs to the melted butter. Don't worry if your crab legs are slightly overcooked; they usually remain moist and tender. A seafood cracker or nutcracker will help with cracking the legs.
