Ingredients

For the Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey if you want a lighter option)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese the gooier, the better
For the Sauce and Spaghetti
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces spaghetti
  • to taste Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Grab a golf-ball-sized portion of the mixture, flatten it in your palm, and place a tablespoon of mozzarella cheese in the center.
  3. Wrap the meat around the cheese, forming a ball. Repeat for all meatballs to make about 12.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the meatballs until golden brown on all sides, about 6-8 minutes.
  2. Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs and cover the skillet, letting them simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  3. While the meatballs are simmering, cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
Serving
  1. Serve the spaghetti topped with meatballs swimming in sauce, and garnish with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

Don’t worry if your sauce looks a little lumpy—it adds character! For kids, you can swap marinara for a low-sugar pasta sauce.
