Preparation
- Grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
Cook Mixture
- In a medium saucepan, mix together the sugar, corn syrup, water, salt, and cream of tartar. Place it over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 250°F (hard-ball stage).
Flavoring
- Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and vanilla extract.
Cooling and Coloring
- Pour the mixture onto a greased marble slab or a heat-proof surface to cool.
- Once cool enough to handle, add a few drops of food coloring and knead until colored.
Shaping
- Pinch off small sections of the peppermint mix and roll them into logs or shapes. Dust with powdered sugar.
Setting
- Allow the shapes to cool completely at room temperature.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 weeks. Adjust extracts to customize flavors.
