Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup Can be substituted with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional, adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For dusting.
  • red and green food coloring Optional, for coloring.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
Cook Mixture
  1. In a medium saucepan, mix together the sugar, corn syrup, water, salt, and cream of tartar. Place it over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 250°F (hard-ball stage).
Flavoring
  1. Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and vanilla extract.
Cooling and Coloring
  1. Pour the mixture onto a greased marble slab or a heat-proof surface to cool.
  2. Once cool enough to handle, add a few drops of food coloring and knead until colored.
Shaping
  1. Pinch off small sections of the peppermint mix and roll them into logs or shapes. Dust with powdered sugar.
Setting
  1. Allow the shapes to cool completely at room temperature.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 weeks. Adjust extracts to customize flavors.
