  • 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Choose your favorite apple variety for different flavors.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter Cut into small pieces.
  • 1 splash vanilla extract Optional for extra flavor.

Preparation
  1. Wash and slice the apples, leaving the skin on.
  2. In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; stir well.
  3. Add the apple slices to the mixture and toss until evenly coated.
Cooking
  1. Place the coated apples in the slow cooker and dot with butter.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours until tender.
  3. Serve warm, ladled into bowls on their own or with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Mix different types of apples for a unique flavor. For crunch, add chopped nuts. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week.
