Ingredients

Seafood Mixture
  • 1 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
  • 1 cup crab meat Substitute with imitation crab if desired
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning or your favorite seafood seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Bread Setup
  • 4 slices sourdough or your bread of choice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened For spreading on the bread

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped shrimp and crab meat. Add the mayonnaise, shredded cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Give it a good stir until everything is blended beautifully.
  2. Take your slices of bread and spread a thin layer of the softened butter on one side of each slice.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, place the buttered bread slices, butter side down. Spoon your creamy shrimp and crab mixture generously on top of the bread slices.
  2. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the melts cook for about 5-7 minutes, checking to ensure they don’t burn. They should be golden brown on the bottom and melty on top.
Serving
  1. Once they’re perfectly toasted and bubbling, remove from the skillet and slice in half. Serve hot.

Notes

Serve with a fresh green salad or a warm bowl of tomato soup. For a spicy kick, add hot sauce to the mixture. For a veggie version, replace seafood with chopped spinach and artichokes.
