Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together and set aside.
- In another large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- One by one, add the eggs to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually add in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.
- Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until just combined, being careful not to over-mix.
- Pour the batter into a greased sheet pan (about 9x13 inches).
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Making the Twist
- While the cake is baking, whip up the frosting by combining powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix until smooth, adjusting consistency with more milk or sugar as needed.

- Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting generously on top.
