Ingredients

Fritter Ingredients
  • 2 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • as needed Oil for frying
  • to taste Coarse sea salt for finishing Use after frying

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour these into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  3. Fold in the diced Honeycrisp apples.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet or heavy-bottomed pot, heat your oil to about 350°F.
  2. Using a spoon or scoop, drop the batter into the hot oil. Fry the fritters in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  3. Once cooked, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt while still warm.
  4. Serve them warm, either on their own or with a side of maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

Fry in batches to maintain oil temperature and achieve crispy fritters. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to regain crispiness.
