Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted 1 stick
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring for vibrant color
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder adds chocolate flavor
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips optional, but recommended

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Mix until blended, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing until creamy. Stir in vanilla extract and red food coloring until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate this dry mix into your wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips gently, if using.
Baking
  1. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth it out with a spatula.
  2. Bake for about 20-25 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

If you don't have food coloring, beet juice can be used as a natural substitute, though it won't be as vibrant. Leftover brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for a week.
