  • 1 unit ready-made pie crust Use store-bought for convenience.
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon Cooked until crispy.
  • 2 medium red onions, thinly sliced Caramelized for flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing onions.
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar Enhances flavor of onions.
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese Meltable cheese for topping.
  • 2 large eggs For binding the tart.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Creamy custard base.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Seasoning to enhance flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove, crumble, and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add olive oil and sauté the sliced red onions over medium heat until golden brown, about 10-15 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper.
  4. Roll out the pie crust into a tart pan or pie dish. Layer the sautéed onions and crumbled bacon on the bottom, then sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream, then pour over the bacon and cheese filling.
  6. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can prepare the filling a day in advance to save time. Consider swapping cheddar for blue cheese or goat cheese for varied flavors. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
