Ingredients
  

Dough ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package instant yeast (1/4 ounce) For leavening
  • 1 teaspoon sugar Helps activate the yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F) Temperature is key for yeast activation
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Filling ingredients
  • 1 cup pizza sauce Store-bought or homemade
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • to taste favorite pizza toppings (pepperoni, bell peppers, olives, etc.) Get creative!

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir them together to mix.
  2. Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Start mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
Rolling Out the Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. Once the dough has risen, turn it onto a lightly floured surface. Divide it into 4 equal pieces.
  3. Roll each piece into a circle about 6 inches in diameter.
Filling
  1. Spoon pizza sauce on one half of each circle, leaving space around the edge.
  2. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top, then add your favorite toppings.
  3. Fold the other half over and pinch the edges to seal.
Baking
  1. Place the calzones on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

For a crispy crust, brush calzones with olive oil before baking. Serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
