Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour Sifted
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water To be added later
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cups butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mixing
  1. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to your dry mix. Beat it all together on medium speed for about two minutes.
  3. Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Once baked, cool the cakes in their pans for 10 minutes before flipping them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until light and fluffy.
Assembly
  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Notes

Consider adding a splash of espresso for extra depth. Decorate with fresh berries or chocolate shavings for flair.
