Ingredients

Doughnut Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg adds flavor
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying or doughnut maker for a healthier option
Optional Toppings
  • powdered sugar, glazes, sprinkles Get creative with toppings!

Method

Preparation
  1. Grab a large mixing bowl and whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg to create your dry mixture.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until well blended.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined, being careful not to overmix; a little lumpy is okay.
  4. If using a doughnut cutter, lightly flour your surface, roll out the dough to about half an inch thick, and cut out your doughnut shapes. Use a glass and a shot glass for the hole if you don't have a cutter.
Cooking
  1. Heat the oil in a deep skillet over medium heat and fry the doughnuts for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  2. Once fried, let them cool on a paper towel, then coat them in sugar, glaze, or sprinkles as desired.

Notes

You can also bake these doughnuts at 375°F for 10-12 minutes if you prefer baking to frying. Try adding chocolate chips or nuts to the batter for more flavor. Making doughnuts can be a fun family activity!
