Preparation
- Grab a large mixing bowl and whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg to create your dry mixture.
- In a separate bowl, beat together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until well blended.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined, being careful not to overmix; a little lumpy is okay.
- If using a doughnut cutter, lightly flour your surface, roll out the dough to about half an inch thick, and cut out your doughnut shapes. Use a glass and a shot glass for the hole if you don't have a cutter.
Cooking
- Heat the oil in a deep skillet over medium heat and fry the doughnuts for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Once fried, let them cool on a paper towel, then coat them in sugar, glaze, or sprinkles as desired.
Notes
You can also bake these doughnuts at 375°F for 10-12 minutes if you prefer baking to frying. Try adding chocolate chips or nuts to the batter for more flavor. Making doughnuts can be a fun family activity!
