Method
Preparation
- Set up an assembly line with three shallow bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for the breadcrumb mixture.
- Mix the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.
Coat the Cheese Sticks
- Roll each mozzarella cheese stick in the flour, shaking off any excess.
- Dip it into the egg mixture, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.
- Repeat for all cheese sticks.
Chill the Sticks
- Place the coated cheese sticks in the freezer for about 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.
Fry the Cheese Sticks
- Heat about an inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
- Test the oil by dropping in a breadcrumb; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
- Fry the cheese sticks in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Drain and Serve
- Remove the cheese sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce or ranch for dipping.
Notes
Freeze coated cheese sticks for best results to prevent them from oozing during frying. Maintain medium heat for optimal frying.
