  • 28 ounces 1 can (28 ounces) of diced tomatoes Canned can be awesome!
  • 0.5 cups 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar The magic elixir
  • 0.25 cups 1/4 cup of brown sugar Or honey if you prefer
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of salt Bland ketchup is not an option
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder The zing that brings it all together
  • 0.25 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon Adds depth
  • 1 pinch A pinch of allspice Optional—if you want to get fancy!

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Blend the diced tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar in a blender until smooth.
  2. Pour the blended mixture into a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Stir in the salt, onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon, and allspice.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  5. Let it simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste the ketchup and adjust sweetness or acidity if needed.
  7. Once achieved flavor perfection, let it cool down.
  8. Pour the homemade ketchup into a clean glass jar or bottle.
  9. Store in the fridge for up to a month.

Notes

Don’t fear the blend; little tomato chunks are fine. You can add hot sauce or smoked paprika for a different twist.
