  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Feel free to substitute with dark chocolate chips.
  • optional crushed candy canes For festive flair.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until it’s light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional crushed candy canes.
Baking
  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized dollops of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.
  3. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Chilling the dough for about 30 minutes can enhance the flavors. Use melted white chocolate for drizzling or sprinkle sea salt for a sweet-salty twist. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week or freeze the dough for up to three months.
