Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until it’s light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and optional crushed candy canes.
Baking
- Scoop tablespoon-sized dollops of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.
- Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Chilling the dough for about 30 minutes can enhance the flavors. Use melted white chocolate for drizzling or sprinkle sea salt for a sweet-salty twist. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week or freeze the dough for up to three months.
