Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, or more as needed
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix them together.
  2. Slowly pour in the warm water and olive oil. Stir until you form a sticky dough.
  3. Dust a clean surface with a bit of flour and pour your dough onto it. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, until it's smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp dish towel. Let it rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. After the first rise, gently punch it down and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan or shape it into a round ball.
  6. Cover it again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes while preheating your oven to 375°F.
  7. Bake your bread in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until it's golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. Wait a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

If it’s your first time baking bread, don’t stress over perfection. Even failed loaves can be delicious with butter. For leftovers, make croutons or breadcrumbs. Slice before freezing for convenience.
