  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice Keeps the apples bright!
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch For thickening the filling.

Preparation
  1. Start by peeling, coring, and slicing your apples.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15-20 minutes.
  4. If you prefer a thicker filling, cook the mixture in a saucepan over medium heat until the apples are tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Once the filling is ready, allow it to cool completely before using.

Notes

Choose a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor. Prepare the filling a day in advance to save time! You can also substitute with pears or berries.
