Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, salt, yeast, and warm water. Stir and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
- Gradually add 4 cups of flour and the oil. Mix until a dough starts to form, adding more flour if too sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough gently and turn it out onto a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover the pan and let it rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffed up.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
For quicker kneading, a stand mixer can be used for 5-7 minutes on medium speed. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-5 days or freeze slices for longer storage.
