Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Add more if you're a garlic lover!
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the garlic.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano Feel free to use fresh herbs.
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil Fresh basil can be substituted.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper Adjust according to your preference.
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar Balances the acidity of the tomatoes.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once it’s warm, add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it.
  2. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
  3. Sprinkle in the oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Stir everything together and let simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. After simmering, taste the sauce and adjust seasonings as needed.
  5. Let the sauce cool, then use it on your favorite pizza or store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Notes

You can freeze the sauce for later use. For a chunkier texture, use diced tomatoes instead of crushed tomatoes. Add red pepper flakes if you want it spicy.
