Preparation
- In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Then add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until creamy and well-combined.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold about half of this whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
- Gradually fold in the melted and cooled chocolate chips into your creamy concoction until fully combined.
Layering the Trifle
- In a trifle dish (or any clear glass bowl), start by placing a layer of chocolate cookie crumbs at the bottom.
- Add a layer of your chocolate cheesecake mixture, followed by a layer of whipped cream. Repeat until ingredients are used up, finishing with whipped cream on top.
Garnishing and Chilling
- Sprinkle some chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder on top. Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and let it chill in the fridge for at least two hours.
Notes
Make-ahead magic: This trifle can be prepared a day in advance. You can also swap chocolate cookies for vanilla cookies or graham crackers. For a lighter option, consider using reduced-fat cream cheese or Greek yogurt.
