Ingredients

Filling Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, diced (red, green, or yellow)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Assembly Ingredients
  • 6 slices of garlic bread (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

Method

Cooking the Filling
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground beef (or turkey), onion, and bell pepper. Cook until the meat is browned and the veggies are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the tomato sauce, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let everything simmer for about 5-10 minutes.
Preparing the Bread
  1. While your filling simmers, pop the garlic bread into the oven according to the package instructions or your own homemade recipe.
Assembling the Sloppy Joes
  1. Once your filling has thickened slightly, remove the garlic bread from the oven. Spoon a hearty amount of the meat mixture onto one slice of garlic bread, sprinkle with cheese, and top with another slice of garlic bread.
  2. Pop the sandwiches back in the oven for a couple of minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey.
Serving
  1. Slice the sandwiches in half, serve with a side of chips or a fresh salad, and enjoy!
