Ingredients

Batter Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use 2 sticks
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce Store-bought is fine

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grab your favorite baking pan—an 8x8 inch one works great for this recipe.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped pecans and a cup of chocolate chips.
Assembly
  1. Spread half the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  2. Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over this layer.
  3. Spread the remaining batter over the caramel.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Notes

The bars will firm up as they cool. Extra caramel can be used for drizzling on desserts or in coffee. Consider mixing in extra pecans on top before baking for added crunch.
