Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and instant yeast. Stir gently to combine.
- Pour in the lukewarm water. If using sugar, add it now! Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for at least 4 hours (overnight is preferred).
- Once the dough has risen, sprinkle flour on a clean surface and turn the dough out. Form it into a rough rectangle.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and crusty.
- Let it cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy.
Notes
You can substitute whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour for a denser texture. To freeze bread, slice and wrap tightly before storing.
