Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast (or 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1.25 cups lukewarm water Ensure it's not too hot.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Optional for sweetness.
For Greasing
  • to taste Olive oil or butter For greasing the pan.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and instant yeast. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Pour in the lukewarm water. If using sugar, add it now! Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for at least 4 hours (overnight is preferred).
  4. Once the dough has risen, sprinkle flour on a clean surface and turn the dough out. Form it into a rough rectangle.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and crusty.
  8. Let it cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy.

Notes

You can substitute whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour for a denser texture. To freeze bread, slice and wrap tightly before storing.
