Ingredients
Method
Activation
- Pour the warm milk into a bowl. Add the sugar and yeast, give it a gentle stir, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Dough Preparation
- Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with the egg and melted butter. Mix until a rough dough forms.
Kneading and Rising
- Flour your work surface and knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Lightly grease a bowl, place the dough inside, and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Rolling and Filling
- Once your dough has risen, punch it down! Roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush the top with melted butter, then sprinkle brown sugar and chocolate chips (or any filling of choice) evenly over the dough.
Shaping
- Fold the dough in thirds like a letter. Cut the folded dough into strips, about 1 inch wide. Twist each strip slightly while placing it in a greased muffin tin.
Second Rise
- Cover the muffin tin with a cloth and let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Baking
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.
Finishing Touches
- Let them cool a bit in the pan, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Get creative with fillings, such as cream cheese with fruit preserves or chocolate hazelnut spread. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, reheating in the oven to restore flakiness.
