Ingredients
  

Potatoes and Dairy
  • 2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet) Peeled and sliced thinly
  • 2 cups heavy cream For a rich and creamy texture
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese Or your favorite cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Seasonings
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme Or 1 tablespoon if using dried
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning
  • Butter for greasing To prevent sticking

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly (about 1/8 inch thick).
  3. In a bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, fresh thyme, salt, and pepper.
Layering and Baking
  1. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom, pour half of the creamy mix over them, and sprinkle half of the Gruyère and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Repeat this with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
  4. Cover the dish with aluminum foil (shiny side down) and bake for about 45 minutes.
  5. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
Serving
  1. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Feel free to mix in other ingredients such as cooked bacon or sautéed onions for extra flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
