Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, sugar, and melted butter.
- Mix in the flour until just combined. Don't worry if it looks a little lumpy.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the mixture, then whisk until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pie crust. Optionally, sprinkle nutmeg on top.
Baking
- Bake for 45-55 minutes until the center is set and lightly jiggly. A toothpick should come out clean.
- Allow the pie to cool for at least an hour before slicing.
Serving
- Serve with freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For crust choices, a store-bought pie crust saves time. You can substitute buttermilk with milk plus vinegar or lemon juice. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
