  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 mix)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped adds a lovely crunch
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced because garlic makes everything better
  • 1/3 cup ketchup plus more for topping
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce your secret weapon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Flavors
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning for a flavor boost

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, celery, garlic, ketchup, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish. Make a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing.
  4. Spread a thin layer of ketchup on top.
Cooking
  1. Bake for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  2. Once baked, let it rest for about ten minutes before slicing.

Notes

Feel free to swap out ingredients! Leftover veggies can be added for customization. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days, or frozen for up to three months. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed veggies.
