Ingredients

For the cake
  • 1 package yellow cake mix Pre-packaged mix for convenience.
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
For the gooey layer
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup chocolate chips For topping and added gooeyness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  3. Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and pour the cake batter, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  4. In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until silky. Add the powdered sugar, followed by the eggs and peanut butter, mixing until well incorporated.
  5. Pour the creamy peanut butter mixture over the cake batter, spreading it evenly. Optionally, top with chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, until the edges look golden and center is slightly jiggly.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, or enjoy it warm.

Notes

If the cake cracks while baking, it adds to its charm and gooeyness. You can also swirl extra peanut butter into the creamy layer before baking for added flavor. Consider adding a drizzle of chocolate syrup or chopped peanuts as toppings.
