Ingredients
Method
Bake the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until well combined. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
Make the Cream Filling
- While your cakes are cooling, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
Assemble the Cake
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread the cream filling on top of the first layer. Gently place the second layer on top.
Prepare the Chocolate Ganache
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until just boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until smooth and glossy.
Decorate
- Pour the chocolate ganache over the assembled cake, letting it cascade down the sides for that stunning effect.
Serve and Enjoy
- Cut a slice or two for yourself and enjoy!
Notes
Short on time? You can use store-bought chocolate ganache. Chill the cake for about 30 minutes after assembly for extra stability. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
