Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, drizzle in olive oil and add diced onion. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until translucent.
- Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned and fully cooked through (about 5-7 minutes).
- Drain excess grease, stir in ketchup and mustard, and remove from heat. Mix in cheddar cheese and let it melt.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough on a floured surface and cut out skull shapes using a knife or cookie cutter.
- Scoop a generous tablespoon of cheeseburger filling into the center of a skull-shaped piece of dough, cover with another dough piece, and pinch edges to seal.
- Brush egg wash over each skull.
Baking
- Place the filled skulls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving with extra ketchup and mustard on the side.
Notes
Make the filling ahead of time and store it in the fridge. You can sneak in veggies like carrots or bell peppers into the beef mixture. Imperfections in the dough add to the spooky charm!
