Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
Baking
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting
- Beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until well blended.
- Add heavy cream and vanilla. Beat on high speed for about a minute until fluffy.
Assembly
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, then layer the second cake on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Notes
For egg-free, substitute each egg with 1/4 cup applesauce. Add whipped cream or fresh berries for serving.
