Ingredients

For the Tiramisu
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled A splash of coffee liqueur can be added for extra flavor.
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese Cream cheese can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate cake, crumbled Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling or fresh cherries
For Garnish
  • Cocoa powder For dusting.
  • Chocolate shavings or curls Optional.
  • More cherries If desired.

Method

Preparation
  1. Brew a strong cup of coffee and let it cool.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip until it forms soft peaks.
  3. Dip the chocolate cake crumbles quickly into the cooled coffee, just a few seconds so it’s not soggy.
  4. Start layering: pack a portion of the dipped cake at the bottom of a trifle dish or individual cups.
  5. Spread a layer of the mascarpone mixture over the cake. Top it off with a spoonful of cherry pie filling.
  6. Repeat these layers until you reach the top of your dish. The last layer should be the mascarpone mixture.
  7. Cover your dessert with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  8. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder, sprinkle chocolate shavings, and add fresh cherries.

Notes

Keep leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. This dessert is better when made a day ahead to fully develop the flavors.
