Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound beef flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated (optional but delicious!)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more if you like it hot)
  • cooked rice (to serve)

Method

Preparation
  1. Slice your beef flank steak thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  2. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sauté minced garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the skillet, and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Toss in the broccoli florets and add a splash of water. Cover the pan for a couple of minutes to steam the broccoli until tender.
  4. Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli, stirring to combine for another 2 minutes.
  5. Serve the stir-fry over a bed of fluffy cooked rice.

Notes

You can slice your beef and broccoli ahead of time to save preparation time. Feel free to substitute ginger with ground ginger or use other veggies like bell peppers or snap peas for added color. For extra crunch, toss in some cashews or toasted sesame seeds just before serving.
