Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix together the applesauce, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Beat in the eggs until the mixture is smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, spices, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, being careful not to overmix.
- If desired, fold in chopped walnuts or raisins.
Baking
- Pour the batter into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling
- Once baked, let the applesauce bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Slice and enjoy with friends or keep it to yourself.
Notes
For a twist, substitute applesauce with mashed bananas or other purees like pumpkin. Store leftovers wrapped at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze for up to three months.
