  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder for those chocolate cravings!
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk or your preferred dairy alternative
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Optional: frosting or powdered sugar for topping

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour your cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Stir until combined and smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack. Serve as-is or top with powdered sugar or frosting.

Notes

Mix in a splash of coffee or yogurt for an interesting twist. This cake can also be enjoyed for breakfast when topped with yogurt and berries. You can double the recipe for a larger gathering.
