Description

A comforting and hearty chili inspired by Wendy’s that is quick and easy to prepare, perfect for busy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: shredded cheese and sour cream for topping

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat: In a large pot, heat over medium-high heat and add in your ground beef. Cook it until it’s browned, stirring to break it up—about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Sauté the veggies: Add diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, roughly 3-4 minutes.
  3. Combine the ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, pinto beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer the chili: Bring your mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 25-30 minutes.
  5. Serve it up: Ladle it into bowls and garnish with shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream if desired.

Notes

For a thicker chili, let it simmer longer or use a potato masher to break down some of the beans.
