  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings or additional caramel for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until well blended.
  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture and mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in the boiling water carefully until the batter is well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full, and bake for 18-20 minutes.
  6. Cool the cupcakes completely, then remove the center of each and fill with caramel sauce.
  7. Beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing well.
  8. Add milk and vanilla to the frosting mix until smooth, then pipe or spread on the cupcakes.
  9. Decorate with additional caramel and chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

Optional additions include espresso powder for richer chocolate flavor or sea salt on caramel for a sweet-savory twist.
