Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (85% lean recommended)
- ½ pound ground pork
- ¾ cup plain breadcrumbs (panko works beautifully)
- 1 small onion, finely diced (about ½ cup)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- ½ teaspoon allspice
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 8 oz egg noodles (medium width)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium preferred)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the meatballs: Combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, diced onion, garlic, egg, milk, parsley, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix gently, form into 1-inch balls, and brown in a skillet.
- Cook the noodles: Boil salted water, cook egg noodles for 2 minutes less than package directions, then drain.
- Prepare the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add beef broth. Stir in heavy cream and simmer.
- Assemble the bake: Preheat oven to 375°F. Layer half the noodles, half the meatballs, and half the sauce. Repeat and sprinkle Swiss cheese on top.
- Bake for 20 minutes covered, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Notes
Use plant-based ground meat for a vegetarian version and choose gluten-free breadcrumbs and noodles for dietary restrictions.
