Description
An elegant dish combining buttery filet mignon and sweet lobster for a luxury dining experience at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (6-8 oz) center-cut filet mignon steaks
- 2 lobster tails (4–6 oz each)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons high-quality olive oil
- 1 lemon, halved
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Optional: 1 tablespoon brandy or cognac
Instructions
- Remove steaks from refrigeration 30-45 minutes before cooking to reach room temperature. Pat them dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Using kitchen shears, cut through the top shell of each lobster tail lengthwise. Gently separate the meat from the shell and elevate it using the ‘piggyback’ method.
- Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in thyme, rosemary, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Add olive oil and remaining butter. Sear the steaks for 3-4 minutes on each side until medium-rare.
- Brush lobster meat with herb butter. Cook lobster tails in the skillet for 2 minutes shell-side down, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- Allow steaks to rest for 5-10 minutes. Plate the filet mignon alongside the lobster tail and drizzle with remaining herb butter.
Notes
For a healthier option, substitute butter with olive oil and reduce portion sizes of steak and lobster.
