Description

A rich, gooey dessert that creates its own hot fudge sauce while baking, combining cake and pudding in one irresistible dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until combined. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared dish, spreading evenly, then sprinkle brown sugar and cocoa mixture on top without stirring.
  4. Carefully pour the hot water (or coffee) over the mixture, again without stirring.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is set but slightly soft in the center. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier alternative, reduce sugar and substitute with whole wheat flour or applesauce.
