Description
Enjoy the classic flavors of a Philly cheese steak sandwich in a family-friendly casserole format, loaded with tender beef, caramelized onions, sautéed peppers, and three types of cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ribeye steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
- 2 green bell peppers, sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 8 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
- 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 6 hoagie rolls, cubed
Instructions
- Prepare the meat and vegetables by slicing ribeye steak into thin strips. Heat olive oil in a skillet, add steak, and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Season and set aside.
- Sauté the onions in the same skillet until caramelized, then add bell peppers and mushrooms, cooking until softened. Stir in garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning.
- Create the cheese sauce by combining cream cheese and beef broth in a microwave-safe bowl, microwaving until smooth.
- Assemble the casserole in a greased baking dish, layering cubed hoagie rolls, meat, vegetables, and cheese mixtures, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) covered for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Notes
For a lighter version, use lean steak or chicken and reduced-fat cheese. Serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables.
