Ingredients

  • 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 200g shiitake mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 package of wontons (store-bought)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 green onion, sliced for garnish
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: a sprinkle of chilli flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. Prepare the broth: In a large pot, pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  2. Add the goods: Toss in the sliced shiitake mushrooms and grated ginger. Let them simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing their flavours to infuse the broth.
  3. Wontons are in: Add the wontons to the pot, simmering them as per the package directions – usually around 4-5 minutes. You will see them plump up, soaking in all the goodness of the broth!
  4. Season it up: Stir in the soy sauce and sesame oil. Give everything a taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. If you like a bit of zing, sprinkle in some chilli flakes!
  5. Garnish and serve: Ladle the vibrant broth into bowls, sprinkle with sliced green onion, and enjoy the heartwarming aromas.

Notes

Fresh ginger enhances the flavor of the broth. Feel free to use different wonton fillings and add any leftover veggies or proteins for variety.
