Description
Classic dill cheddar cheese balls are the perfect appetizer for any gathering, combining sharp cheddar with the vibrant flavor of dill.
Ingredients
Scale
- 16 oz sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried dill)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
- 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Combine the softened cream cheese and grated cheddar in a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
- Fold in the chopped dill, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Spoon the cheese mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap and form into a ball. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Combine the toasted chopped nuts and parsley in a shallow bowl.
- Unwrap the chilled cheese ball and roll it in the nut and parsley mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Let the cheese ball sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Toasting the nuts enhances their flavor. Making the cheese balls a day ahead improves flavor development.
