Description

Classic dill cheddar cheese balls are the perfect appetizer for any gathering, combining sharp cheddar with the vibrant flavor of dill.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried dill)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the softened cream cheese and grated cheddar in a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  2. Fold in the chopped dill, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  3. Spoon the cheese mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap and form into a ball. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Combine the toasted chopped nuts and parsley in a shallow bowl.
  5. Unwrap the chilled cheese ball and roll it in the nut and parsley mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
  6. Let the cheese ball sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Toasting the nuts enhances their flavor. Making the cheese balls a day ahead improves flavor development.
