A cherished Southern tradition, this creamy and melt-in-your-mouth cream pull candy can be made using foolproof methods that anyone can master.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon vinegar

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and buttering it.
  2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, cream, and salt in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  3. Cook the mixture over medium heat until it reaches 235-240°F (soft-ball stage).
  4. Add the butter and vanilla extract and stir carefully.
  5. Cool the mixture until it is comfortable to touch (about 110-115°F).
  6. Pull the candy with buttered hands for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Shape the candy into ropes and cut into 1-inch pieces.

Notes

Store cream pull candy in an airtight container at room temperature, separated by waxed paper to prevent sticking.
